Temperatures acceptable for equipment while flying.....?

Chad,

Those were the temps they had in Winnipeg. It blows pretty good out
there most of the time. You guys must be living in a more protected
area. Our area is considered to be the "Banana Belt". It doesn't get
down to -20 Cº very often. Still don't like to go out and freeze my butt
off.
Been there, done that. Used to put skis on the planes. It was nice to
go out in a wide open field and take off and land anywhere. It would be
a little more challenging to taxi when there was a light crust on the snow
and the wind was coming right across. Your plane would be going down
wind whether you liked it or not. Ah...those were the days.
Now I stay a little closer to the fireplace on cold days.

Ahhh its not that bad Karl....the windchill was only -32C (-26F) here this
morning :-)

We have flown sport planes at -20C, the equipment will tolerate more cold
than your skin will.  Guys will fly until its uncomfortable to be outside
and some tolerate it more than others!  I dont do much flying outside
below -10C (14F).

The biggest concern is battery life, you wont get nearly the flights in cold
weather that you will in warm weather....fast charge often.  Also I would be
concerned flying a composite fuse like ZN or PL planes in weather much
colder than -5C or -10C.
