We've had TWO contests already out here on the 
left coast, Phoenix and Lancaster (and no bent 
tubes to show for it).

It's not a problem.  Really.

If you're bending wing tubes, get a carbon fiber 
tube (I can help with that BTW).

If you're failing structure, get another plane 
cause the one you're flying wasn't very well 
built... (that or you're way off base on how to 
do the maneuver).

Bottom line - Done properly it's a non-issue. 
The maneuver is really pretty benign.
