I alway give the engine some time to warm up before pouring the coals to it,
even if it would respond immediately after starting.  Anyway, the fact that
they both behave the same is more proof that the needles are probably both a
tad lean, especially for colder weather conditions.  If they are
occasionally stumbly on a warm day for the first few seconds, no big deal.
If they remain that way after 30 seconds or so, it's probably lean.  If it
gets worse when cold, they're definitely lean.

It's not always the case, but most times. I haven't been able to correlate
it to weather yet. Currently it's rather cold. It's seem that many people
recognize the phenomenon.

The engine is running perfectly in flight. It's just funny that both my DA
50 and DA 150 behave the same!!

Is this something that is only happening in colder weather?  It's very
normal behavior if you had an optimal needle setting in warmer weather and
then this starts to happen when it's cold outside. You have to either richen
the mixture a bit, probably around 1/8 turn per needle to start, or let it
warm up for at least 30 seconds before you try to give it more than a little
throttle.  I would richen it a bit to be sure you don't run lean and
possibly cut out during flight.

I was wondering if you experience the same:

When I start a DA 50 or a DA 150 the first time of the day.

 

I close the choke, ignition on and flip till it blurbs Open choke, it starts
after maximum 5 flips, but then... It will usually die when I try to rev it
up no matter how careful It treat the gas.

I have to repeat the procedure a second time and then all is OK.

 

 

Any ideas, remarks?
