Warning to Masters Pilots

Having read much of the concern about the Avalanche -

- I think pilots with very good speed control will have less problems with this maneuver - in part because they will have the plane slowed down before the snap, and in part because having a consistent entry speed will make the snap easier to hit consistently.
- Most planes need less control throw for snaps at higher speeds.

A way to "warm up" to this maneuver might be to fly a pretty pronounced flat spot on the bottom of the loop - it will give some time for speed to bleed off and allow a good visual of the attitude and track of the plane prior to snap and after the snap. Once the snap is being completed comfortably and consistently, gradually reduce the flat spot until it is gone.

I've flown this Masters thing just two times now. I managed to get through it both times, not a thing of beauty but I believe this is going to be one of the best flowing and attractive patterns we've had in years!

Another note on the avalanche, you just need a ton of power to get back to the top. I do it with no power coming down hill so the plane was almost stopped after the snap but getting back was not a problem. Once again, not a thing of beauty but it will get better and better I betcha!

I quit flying FAI because of the snap on the 45 degree up line. I'm just not
going to change planes to make them maneuver specific. The last thing we
need is a positive or negative snap up. I think it's fine just as it is.
Just work on it a bit and I suspect it will be fine.
