Mike I done a similar thing, I bought a used RX that had the needle valve that is cast into the backplate broken off, bought the Mintor needle valve assembly and it works perfect, did have to drill the hole out to mount.

I needed a new carb for my O.S. 140RX, but at the time they were on back order. So for giggles I took the carb off of my 3M 170 to see what would happen, and it ran great. I was happy with the performance so I just bought a 3M 170 carb for the O.S. I can e-mail pics if you are interested in seein the 3M carb on the O.S.

I installed an old Perry carb on the 91FX. It landed with the same idle speed as at takeoff. An unsuspected additional, but understandable, benefit was much better braking on the downlines. There may be slightly less top end power but the benefits far outweigh the loss, if any. The Perry has a brass barrell which has a lower coef of expansion than alum. OS needs to reengineer the FX carbs and also, I presume, the RX carbs. There may be other carb options availiable that I am not aware of ? Nat Penton
