This was my first "modern" pattern contest and it was a great time. Very well run, really friendly and helpful people and some really great flying to watch. I really appreciate all the help I got in figuring out model & engine selection earlier in the year to get me going, not to mention the setup help and other advice. The party at Dean's was just what the doctor ordered!

Thanks to Joe Lachowski, The Lockharts, Eric Henderson and Frank Granelli for all the help getting started into Pattern. And special thanks to Ann Granelli for calling the sequence for me. Hope I didn't forget anybody!

A big "Thank You" to Eric and Michelle Henderson and the West Windsor Flying Club for a well attended, well-run District 1 contest this weekend!

A great example of delegation of duties, lots of help from both fliers and club members, and overall efficient operation.

    Nice touches were

A designated no-fooling expert flier (Dean Pappas no less!) dedicated to helping Sportsman and Intermediate fliers in any way needed - and anyone else who asked

Courtesy weight, size, and sound checks for all

An envelope for each contestant at the conclusion of the contest that included

A certificate showing a photo of the contestant and the plane, and the results of the courtesy checks

A copy of the final standings for the contestant's class

-- NOT to mention Dean and Mary Ann Pappas hosting all comers for a great dinner at the house on Saturday night!

Great examples abounded of people helping people, fun and companionship, and - oh, yeah, some pretty darned good flying in ALL wind conditions!

This was a great way to kick off the D1 contest season! Thanks again to all who attended, flew, helped, supported and directed it!

    -Rick
