Dave, that's precisely what golfers go through, a pre-shot routine. When you 
get away from it even once, it just doesn't feel right. 

I would add that there's a "pre-shot" routine for the first run up of the 
day. I messed up my run up routine one time this past summer and the engine went 
fat on take-off and nearly cost me the plane
.
