Welllll...for me, the "Technical" reason was that I could get Nichrome at the hobby shop down the road off the Sig rack for 89 cents. :)

i.e. Convenience.   For moderate home use...it works fine.  The production shops may have a better answer...

I see some folks using nichrome (nickel chromium) and others using Inconel wire for foam cutting.

Does anyone know the technical reason that one might be better than the other?
