I have seen Toms models up close and personal and I have been fortunate
enough to see the Japanese models in real life on a number of occasions. I
can tell you that Toms models are every bit as good as theirs and in some
ways better IMHO. Tom is a master craftsman and an innovator. His attention
to detail is unbelievable.
The only problem with his models are when you camp your model next to his at
a comp your own model doesnt seem to look good anymore compared to his
creations.

Peter

Tom,
We would absolutely love to have something from our "foreign" readership...
I'm sure you guys are as adept technically as us in the building
department. I just wish we could get some Japanese members - especially
their builders. Now those guys can build!!!

Absolutely..I agree
I received mine last early last week down here in Aus. I was impressed that
I received it down here before many of you guys in the US had even received
yours!
As an international member, I'd have to say that the K-Factor is the ONLY
'product' that the NSRCA has to offer to myself and other international
members. As an international member we have no other 'rights', i.e. to
vote ( not that this matters to me at all or even any relevance) But this
re-enforces the importance of the K-Factor, as the NSRCA as such can really
do nothing for me except be partly responsible for the overall GLOBAL
growth of pattern.
I have been a member now for 9 or 10 years I believe, at one stage I even
managed to get a few others signed up ( because I was sick and tired of
lending out my issues), but most of these guys never 'subscribed' again.
There were many reasons why this happened. I think the exchange rates were
the single biggest reason...followed immediately by the lack of technical
articles and PICTURES.The guys often commented that they weren't
interested in reading contest reports from XYZ month after month and nothing
else.
The advertising was also a big drawcard as I remember, we could see what the
latest whiz bang gear you guys had available off the shelf. I guess the
advent of the internet has changed the need to advertise in a publication
such as the K-Factor? But yes..bring back the ads with pics of what they
want to sell.
So all in all, I'm glad I stuck it out with you guys<VBG> The K-Factor is on
the upswing again and looks like its worth 'buying'. But most importantly I
feel really privileged to have 'met' some really great people on this list.
Some ( you know who you are) I would consider as 'friends' although having
never met you in person.
But most importantly, remember guys that the organisation is only ever as
strong as its membership, its YOU that makes the NSRCA, not just your
elected leaders. Something I should remind myself of<VBG>.
And also do not feel alone regarding politics, I am sure this is an aspect
alive and well in every pattern flying organisation around the world..even
ours. I guess the trick is not to get too caught up in it.
So my opinion...make the K-factor the best pattern 'magazine ' out there and
the members will appear out of thin air!
best regards
Tom
PS: I might even consider contributing a 'down under ' article from time to
time...but I had better do a few for our organisation first!!!

This has got to be the best K-Factor that I have seen since receiving them.
Even the airplane on the front page looks good after I realized it was
there.

Nice articles like should be in this type of mag. The clarity and neatness
of the layout is exceptional.
