email scam artists

Hey all, just wondering what the preferred method of reporting an email scammer is? This is the typical thing, the scammer doesn't have the funds but has a friend who will inflate a check, send it to me, I deduct my part, etc.  How original.  Anyway, where does this all get forwarded to usually?  FBI?  Anyone have trhe right email address for that?
