Wheel Pant & wheel assembly

I'm assembling my first Bolly gear with Bolly wheel pants and I need some advice.
I'm not sure exactly where on the gear and wheel pant to drill the axle hole so the wheel will extend an adequate amount below the wheel pant to avoid scraping but be recessed enough to look appropriate.
Breaking this down into different questions:
1. What size wheel should I be using with the Bolly Wide gear and wheel pants? I was told the Dave Brown 2 1/2" Lite Flite Wheels would work, but before I start drilling I'd like some verification because they look rather small in the Bolly pants.
2. How much of the wheel needs to extend below the wheel pant to prevent scuffing of the pant. Things that occur to me to consider are less than perfect landings, the natural sag of the foam under the plane's weight and having enough wear room so I'm not changing wheels too often.
3. The answer to #2 will dictate where the hole needs to be drilled into the pant, however there's still the question of where the gear should be attached to the pant. On the Bolly pants there's a molded indention that accepts the gear, however it is much larger (from top to bottom) than is necessary for the gear to fit. This allows mounting such that the bottom of the gear can range between being flush with the bottom of the pant to 3/8" above the bottom of the pant. Of course, the higher the gear is mounted the closer the axle hole will be to the bottom edge of the gear. Do most people mount the bottom of the gear flush with the bottom of the pant, or up 1/8" or so?
I hope someone on the list can decipher what I'm trying to say in #3, it's pretty hard to explain.
Thanks,
Keith
