Quique Somenzini's new Yak 54

Mike,

The fact that Quique and Wayne Ulery, designer of the EU 1, have joined
in a Model Building and Import Co. might have something to do with it. They
had a booth at the Toledo show and I know that Wayne has built some of the
models Quique was flying. It could be that Wayne did the design on the Yak
54, if not some of the building.

Mickey Losardo looked at the plane and was totally impressed. He's the fussiest builder I have ever met. If he thinks it's good than it must be. Mike

Lisa and I looked at the YAK 54 and talked to Quique. He had just finished discussing the plane with the IMAC folks. If I recall correctly the plane did qualify for IMAC competition.

If this is the case and it also performs well for Pattern it will be interesting to follow.

Sounds pretty good to me Tony. This type of plane might just be what's needed to give pattern a boost. We are slowly edging closer and closer to IMAC in design and flying style. These types of planes also have the potential to attract new flyers. They look great and are affordable. They offer wide body performance which is what were striving for and they are good crossover planes that allow for sport flying them as well. I'm going to place my order soon and give it a try. Mike

I looked at it at the show, and ordered some! It is very well built and looks great. Quique said it comes in right around 11 lbs., but with a light battery pack and a CF wing tube, it would be around 10 lbs, 10 oz.

I'm expecting them in about 2 weeks. The selling price is $399.99.

I like the looks of this new ARF. I'd like to know if anyone has an opinion about it's ability to be a decent pattern plane. It fits the parameters of F3a pattern and the cost will only be around $400. Any opinions are apprecaited. thanks, Mike
