Broken header - cause?

Many YS engines run out of threads before the header is seated. They are not
consistant. If there is any doubt, add a gasket so the header is pulled up
tight. I make extra gaskets from 0.050 copper wire wrapped around a 3/8"
drill bit, wind a "spring" of them, cut off rings with diagonal cutters. Yes
there will be a little leakage, but it will be unnoticable because of what
is already blowing out the carb. Don't put any more gasket in there than
you really need, every thread you can get between the header & head is good!

What we really need is a better way to attach the header...

Subject: Broken header - cause?

After re-working my exhaust system my AAP header broke on the first start
up. The flare on the end where it screws into the engine broke off and it
started leaking there.

I have the pipe secured at the front and back, with about 5" of teflon
connected to the header. Engine is YS 140 sport on Hyde ARI. So, did I
kill it with a pipe mouted too stiff, or do these things break there anyway?

Trying to decide if I have more work to do so I won't tear up another one.

Thanks for any help! Chuck
