Judging has and will always will be a problem, I was at a contest this year
and had to fly the last flight while most was packing up so no caller but one
of the judges had somebody call for me that I didn't know, after my flight he
ask if I would like some pointers, of course I said sure, he said "your
loosing a lot of points because you pitch before you snap" of course anything he
said after that I just let go in one ear and out the other.
Until we reach a point where technology does the judging, with say flight
data recorder's or what ever, we will have to live with it, we have come a long
way in the judging area, when I flew in the 80's and all judges was club
judges we still had problems, maybe we are being to critical, of course it would be
good to have everyone on the same page, probably MOST of the time the best
flyer wins. I was told at a contest that no matter what, I fly the way I read
the rules, and he was right, as I have said before contest are more than
winning, it is getting together with friends you only see every few weeks during the
summer, and self improvement, as the records show I'm mostly at the bottom of
the pole as far as winning goes but the guys at my field think I'm a great
flyer and that is what pattern does for you, it makes you work at being better.
