Steve,

The alcohol slightly weakens the epoxy. Have you tried your heat gun
(monokote gun)? I use it for the purpose all the time. Works like a charm.
Put the epoxy on lightly, put the cloth on, and then hit it with the heat
gun while spreading the epoxy. You'll be amazed how far a little bit of
epoxy will spread this way.
