Agree, I think we are pretty much on the same page; I like to regulate the
power (battery) supply for constant performance of the servos. Hence the
voltage regulator is a must in my book.  And the fact that diodes are not as
reliable as a designed voltage regulator is a big fact.  Also it did not
make sense to go through a diode and then voltage regulator.  When I did use
diodes, I used only one and it was in a 6" servo extension - this gives you
additional two connections, which just adds to the complexity and lowers
reliability.  I like the simplicity of only one regulator but with a backup.
