Nothing takes you out of competition faster than loosing rounds to
deadsticks or inconsistent engine running. I've seen more people have
incomplete rounds using 4-cycles, than people running 2-cycles. More people
are seen working on the 4-cycle in the pits, than people working on the
2-cycles. However, maybe that's because there were a higher number of
4-cycles in the contest, so the odds would be higher that problems would
occur. It seems to me that overall, the people running 2-cycles are having
less engine problems.
Has anyone else noticed this, or do you think that once the number of
2-cycles equals the 4-cycles, that the number of engine related incomplete
rounds will even-out?
I had two rounds lost last season at the same contest due to engine related
problems. 1 round, my idle was too low, and after the 3 turn inverted spin,
the engine died (had bad landing/crash). Round following that with
different plane w/ muffler pressure setup was incomplete do to poor
performance after the silicon muffler coupler broke.
