Engine Bearing Air Scoops

Bob....I was helping a good friend today getting the needles set on his new Webra 145 installed in a new Temptation.

Turns out that the builder (which happens to be the designer also) was closing off the air inlets on the cheek scoops. I understand that their experimenting with crankcase cooling was more trouble than it was worth. The engine ran cooler with the holes plugged up.

I personally don't see the advantage other than "hey...that's really cool looking"....no pun intended.

Our exhaust systems hidden beneth the belly pans would probably be alot cooler if the engine and pipe compartment were designed by an airflow expert. The air tends to turbulate with almost everything it hits and then leaks out rather than flowing out.

I found out on the heli's that most of the engine cooling shrouds needed to be modified to cool properly in hot weather.....so the heli manufacturers don't have air ducting right either (and that includes the $3000 superduper jobs)....go figure............John G.
