Isn't the center of a 2 of 4 point at the transition point of knife edge. If that is the case wouldn't the end of knife edge be the cross point(intersection) of the 45 deg lines? If that's the case I'm doing it wrong too.

Seriously -- centering on the inverted 4 of 8 point roll...logic would tell me that it is the center of the knife edge portion, however brief it may be...but is that the real interpretation?
