When a full-sized "drags it in," its to allow a soft-field landing: minimum
roll-out so the chance of the main gear "catching" and causing a flip or
ground loop is as small as possible.
The approach is steep because of the drag, and the approach is slow because
of the power being left on plus the nose-high attitude. On tailwheel
touchdown in a taildragger, the throttle is chopped, and the aircraft very
quickly comes to a stop.
This requires good piloting skills, as the aircraft is being flown right on
the edge of stalling.
