John,
If you want to see a dramatic difference in drag of the windmilling prop in a
full scale Cessna, try this. Use an aircraft with a constant speed prop, set
up for best glide speed with the power off. When you have this done with the
engine at idle, note the number on the VSI. Then pull the prop all the way
out, you will see a pitch up and a smaller number on the VSI. This gives the
effect of a feathered prop in a single. We are also taught that in multiengine
aircraft that if you can't feather the prop of the dead engine, it provides a
lot of drag on the dead engine side and in a real engine out situation it
will really hurt you.
