Lithium or Not ?

Well, one advantage I've heard is that you don't need to worry about determining when the battery is at end of life. they must be purchased fresh from the factory as they degrade whether they are used or not and are discarded after 18 months. Don't know if they fixed the failure mode problems, but if not your plane will turn into a roman candle. Last year a guy posted a picture of his burned house that started from a Li pack.

I'm finding most 2 cell, 1600+ mah Lithiums to be weighing around 2.5 oz or so....plus a regulator (required), another .6, total of 3.1 oz. And NO fast field charging. And special charger.

NiMh 5 cell pack, 1800mah, same reg reqd., about 5.8....

Besides saving the 2.7 ounces (in my application), what are the REAL *other* advantages of going Lithium ?
