Mode 3 Dilemma

Hi All,

I have been flying mode four for more years than some of you are. Ivan C flies the same. It is throttle/aileron left stick and rudder/elevator right stick. I know this because Bob Reuther, Ivan and I pitted together back at the 1974? Dayton NATS. This description goes back to Pro-Line days before JR and Futaba were around.

Mode 4 is the reverse of mode 1.
mode 3 is the reverse of mode 2.

Don't ask me how it came out that way but I ordered my first mode 4 from Pro-Line many years ago. I flew single stick until that time. Those who have the Futaba radios where you can select the modes will find when you select "Stick 4" you will have mode 4. BTW, the 9C and many of the earlier models have this feature. Of course you have a problem trying to select mode 3 because of the standard mode 2 configuration of most new transmitters. With the WC-2, I program the sticks to mode 4. This is neat because I can copy the model to an unused one and then change the sticks and I have instant mode 2 so I can let some of my buddies fly my planes. Larry most of the Futaba radios do indeed have a mode 3, Oops mode 4 switch.

You are right Mike, mode 4 is far best for right handed folks. Mode 1 is a carry over from reed days.

Best,
Ed Hartley

I fly mode 1 also. I tried to fly mode 2 for a the whole 2001 season. Terrible year of flying! Mode 1 has it's merits but I think mode 3 would be best for right handed people. I think that rolls are easier with the Ail and Elev. seperate. Mike

Catcher is, JR offcially calls this Mode 4. The standard cookie cutter setup that is sold OTC is Mode 2 -- Rudder/Throttle left, Aileron/Elevator right.

I like the Mode 4 setup so far, seems to be advantageous to seperate the Aileron/Elevator sticks. Who knows.

For some reason, probably mfg driven.....most all European flyers are flying Mode 1 -- Throttle/Aileron Right.......Elevator/Rudder left.

    Hope this helps
