Change and effect... and a cause! .RE.>> 60 hammered

I concur with everything else in Eric's post but had this one salient point. While flying my .60 sized ship at '96 NATS I scored well enough to place 7th in one round. That day the winds were 5 to 7mph. The other days of competition winds were in the 15 to 20 mph range and I placed in the 15th to 20th place in those rounds. The wind was making my 60 size plane bounce all over and I was getting nailed repeatedly for it by the judges. Granted we won't see that kind of disparity with those that choose to follow the Electric revolution but mark my works I have seen to many changes and heard to many arguments over the 25 years of pattern envolment to realize they is going to be some people left in the dust whether due to learning new technology or trying to unload obsolete equipment. Changes do drive some away from this sport.

I think we accept statements like " There was a judging bias towards 4-c's that made 2-c's redundant", far too readily.

I doubt the migration will be that rapid, and I wouldn't think judging would be discriminatory if the planes are the same size and same style.

The real difference would be if electric engines improve flying due to more power and quicker response, basically the same debate that's gone on about two strokes vs. four strokes.

Clearly this is not nearly as dramatic as the change from 60 to 120 sized planes.

Personally I look forward to electric pattern becoming an affordable reality!

  Keith
