Rudder Turbulator Strips

Hi,
That was John Payne's Cyclone. The kit is available from CD Products.
If you have a separation bubble on both sides of the rudder, then doing what was described can improve rudder "lock" and possibly kill some flutter. Of course, what you really should do is build a thicker rudder. John claimed the idea came from Wolfgang Matt, or his captive aerodynamicist. (same guy responsible for the Rubin wingtips.

I thought I read about 2 years ago that J.S. put a split piece of fuel
tubing on the TE of his 33 or 40% fiberclassics airplane's rudder to get rid
of a tail shake or something like that?

Hi Wojtek,

Not "turbulator strips" as such, but:
I saw a rudder on an Austrailian 2 meter bird at the 
NATS years ago with a very thick trailing edge.  
The pilot (I don't recall his name) said it provided
better response at low speed- such as stall turns.
I suppose you could tape a triangle about 1/2" wide,
1/8" thick to each side of rudder to create a 
trailing edge about 1/4 to 3/8" thick to try it.
If you do, let us know results.
