What happened to prizes?

Hey Guys, the first 8-9 years of contests I attended, you were usually handed a fairly nice throphy for 1-2-3 and the rest of the guys never walked away empty handed, this has nothing to do with contest attendance, it is up to the cd to contact sponsors to
donate one of their products (some of which we buy many) so that we get more people interested in pattern and the new people
will buy more of their products or that was the whole idea. I was involved in contacting people for the last Clayton contest in NJ
and between all of us in the club contacting someone, we had a nice spread of prizes for everyone. The local hobby shop Creek
Hobbies where most of us bought most of our equipment did not flinch getting us a Futaba Radio one year and a JR radio the following year. The Club in turn took pictures of the guys with the products in their hands and put it into the K-factor etc.
At this point in time, it is not that important to me if I receive a prize, but I know when I was first starting out, it was pretty cool
getting a $30 Tru Turn Spinner , or even a new battery pack. Lets think back to what hooked us on this pattern thing other than
the$200 + cost of going to a contest, we all know that just goes with the territory. Let me know what you think, but for the thousands of dollars I have paid to these businesses in the last ten years, I think we are letting them off to easy since they are
the ones that are going to benifit from some new pattern attics
