Focus

MessageThe Focus II (summer release) will have a slightly larger stab and taller/wider fin/rudder than the original Focus. These enhance tracking and stability and we found we could do it without degrading snap and spin characteristics. I flew a modified version of the original Focus that had some of these changes towards the end of last season.

I'd say build your original Focus as-is. They fly great and the new mods are only incremental improvements.

      Added fin/rudder?????

This plane need help with KE flight? Will it KE loop with the stock set up?

I plan on using the 3M 1.40 that I just bought from Jerry (Thanks Jerry!) that should be more than enough power to KE loop this plane.

I and still in the BUILDING stage of my ARC. Hate to miss out on any NEEDED mods.

      Thanks.

Beef up the landing gear block.. We knocked the gear out of 2 of them a couple weeks ago at Ocala (mine included!) Not exactly a flying characteristic, but a zero landing hurts!

I've also seen several folks that have added fin / rudder area. And if you're running a DZ, you might want to shift the engine box back a bit to get the CG closer (mine has an OS 160 @32 oz, and I moved it back about 1/2 inch for very good balance). It also made for easier cowl fitting, as it now slips over and mounts through the fuse sides rather than flush on the front with the blocks and such. HTH, Chuck

I recently purchased a ARC Focus from Piedmont and would like to know the modifications if any that can be made to improve its flight characteristics. i will be flying it with a YS 140 DZ.

          Thanks,
