Back in 1984 my then 16 yr old son got me into pattern. He too had gone to the field with me, learned how to use the power tools, much to the chigrin of his mother. She nearly had a fit when she came into the basement and saw him operating the Dremel jig saw when he was about 4 yrs old. He didn't solo until he was about 12, but reaally took off after that. To this day, he credits his interest in engineering and computers to the exposure to the hobby and the people in it.  

Since graduating from Clarkson, about 10 years ago, he hase not had much time to play with the planes, but the flame is still there. This year I had him flying my Zagi and my G-Trick. He reallly liked the G-Trick and commented that he thought it flew better than anything he had flown in competition in the 80's. That includes a Tipo, and several other top 60 size competition planes.

We got his 9 ch radio updated last spring and I prepared one of his old planes, an 48 inchWS high performance plane, and he flew it just great.

I have offered him one of my 120 ships to fly any time he wants to return to the competition, and I could see the juices start to flow again. At 34, married 2 years, and having just bought a house that needs a lot of remodeling, that may be a year or two away, but I do think he will eventually return.  

Yes, it is a great father-son hobby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
