RealFlight G2

Bob, I can't speak to the specific hardware you're using, but I have RealFlight G2 and I think it's awesome! I initially had some driver issues when I bought it Dec 2001, but after downloading the update it worked fine.

Practicing patterns definitely has its downfalls on any SIM when it comes to working on straight lines and the overall pattern. The problem is that when you're zoomed in to see the plane you can't see the landscape unless the plane is very low. Because if this you can't easily tell when the plane is drifting off course. And if you zoom out so you can see the whole field the plane gets too small to see. What I do is split the difference and have a medium small plane and see the ground most of the time. Where G2 really shines in my opinion is allowing one to practice specific maneuvers or drills to improve muscle memory and mental familiarity with certain things that may be twisting your mind when trying them on the flight line. It's nice to be able to hit the escape key while in mid-air and stop and think about which direction what should be pushed and why. Another big benefit is in helping one to memorize a new pattern.

Having said this keep in mind that the plane on the SIM will never behave "just like" you're plane so the SIM won't help you fine tune your precision, but it does have it's benefits.

I highly recommend it.

Keith

Would like to hear pro and con stories about this sim....have been reading the horror stories on the KnifeEdge software discussion boards....seems pretty intense.
Anyone running G2 on Athlon XP1.7 machine with Win XP Home ???

Don't REALLY want to spend $200 for some lessons about video driver installations...
